Cape Fear Takes Carolinas Women's Club Team Lead

 

WALLACE, N.C. (October 13, 2020) -- First round results of the 4th Carolinas Women’s Club Team Championship at River Landing Golf Club (Landing) in Wallace, N.C. on October 13, 2020.  The field is competing at approximately 5,060 yards, par 72.

Cape Fear Country Club, playing in their first Carolinas Women’s Club Team Championship, has taken an early four-stroke lead at River Landing Golf Club. The side of Natalie Petersen and Teresa Balkum of Wilmington, N.C. carded the low round of the day firing off a 7-under-par, 65 in the captain’s choice round. The other half of the Cape Fear team, Libby Neil and Debbie Long of Wilmington, N.C. shot 3-under-par, 69 to bring the team total to 10-under-par, 134. 

 

Three-time champions, Pinehurst Country Club are in second position after a 6-under-par, 138 overall opening round. Patty Moore and Donna Tanner shot the second lowest round of the day at 5-under-par, 67. With the addition of Kendra Muir and Sally Means of Pinehurst, N.C., the team is just four strokes off of the lead heading into the four-ball stroke play round tomorrow. 

 

Maureen McCarthy and Cheryl Stamp of Wallace, N.C. carded a 4-under-par, 68 to help put the home team, River Landing Golf Club in third position. Cheryl Nichols and Janice Zoesch of Wallace, N.C. shot 1-under-par, 71 to bring the team total to 5-under-par, 139. 

 

In the Carolinas Division, Wildwood Green Golf Club has taken a six stroke lead at 6-under-par, 138 overall (net score). Wildwood Green is followed by Pinehurst Country Club in second at even-par, 144 (net) total and River Landing Golf Club and Starmount Forest Country Club tied for third at 1-over-par, 145 (net) total. 

 

Sue McDermott and Debbie Hockman of Pinehurst Country Club, Maria Malone and Linda Arnaud of Starmount Forest Country Club, and Denice Short and Kim Waterhouse of Wildwood Green Golf Club all tied for lowest side in their division at 4-under-par, 68 net.
