Hanahan, SC --- First round results of the 86th Women's Carolinas Amateur Championship hosted by Yeamans Hall Club on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.  Par 36-36--72 5,922 yards.

Local resident Katie Rose Higgins of Charleston, SC fired a two under par round of 70 and is tied for the lead along with Kathryn Miranda of Lexington, SC.  Ironically enough, Miranda attends the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, SC.  "Local knowledge goes a long way around here," Teddy Stockwell, championship chairwoman said.  "You need to know where you can hit the ball and what areas you have to avoid."  “My putting was pretty good today,” Higgins said. 

Two shots back are Karli Heimbecker of Sanford, NC and Stacey Tomlinson of Greeleyville, SC. 

In the Carolinas Tee division Jackie King of High Point, NC shot a five over par 77 in the first round of the championship and leads by one shot over five other competitors. This division plays a shorter course.

In the senior division, Angela Stewart of Greenville, NC leads by four shots over Karen Ferree of Hilton Head, SC.  Carole Jones of Hillsborough, NC and Susan Harden of Beaufort, SC are tied for the Super Senior prize after the first day.

Leaders will begin play off the 1st and 10th tee at 8:30am.
