Cornelius, NC -- Final results of the 85th Women's Carolinas Amateur Championship hosted by The Peninsula Club on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Par 36-36-72, 5813 yards.

19-year-old, Courtney Gunter of Matthews, NC captures the 85th Women's Carolinas Amateur Championship by two strokes over Caroline Ellington of New Bern, NC. Gunter, who plays for the University of North Carolina Women's Golf Team, says her putter and steady play led her to her victory. "I probably putted the best during the first round, but my putting was pretty good all week. I also never got ahead of myself," Courtney said. Gunter now holds the oldest women's amateur championship trophy in the Carolinas. "I'm very honored to have my name attached with this championship. This is the most fun I've had at a tournament in a long time." Gunter vowed to return to defend her title next year where the Championship will be held at Yeaman's Hall Club in Charleston, SC.

In the Carolinas tees division, Sook Hee Yang of Jamestown, NC won the overall title by five strokes over Bonnie Montgomery also of Jamestown, NC. This division plays a shorter course. Players were placed into flights for the final round within their respective division.

The overall Senior champion was Lea Anne Brown of Mt. Pleasant, SC who won on the second hole of sudden death over Peg Brady of Stanley, NC.

The overall Super Senior trophy went to Carole Jones of Hillsborough, NC.
