Faced with hot and humid weather, Michael Childress of Salisbury, N.C. was able to come out firing and shot an impressive round of 68, four-under-par.  Even more impressively, he was able to shoot four-under-par on his back nine after shooting even on the front side.  This round puts him in the lead after day one of the 12^th Dogwood State Junior Championship.  “I just wanted to hit the middle of the greens and make a couple of putts here and there.  A birdie on the first hole was really nice to take some of the tension...
