99th AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE CAROLINAS GOLF ASSOCIATION HEADS THIS WEEK TO THE OCEAN COURSE AT KIAWAHISLAND

WEST END, NC - The Carolinas Amateur Championship, flagship event of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA), moves to The Ocean Course at KiawahIsland, site of last year’s PGA Championship, July 11-14.

The CGA received a record 777 entries, exceeding the previous total high of 550, established last year, by 41 percent.

Dawn Woodward of Greer, SC is the three-time defending champion and is seeded number one for match play if otherwise eligible. The 32 lowest handicap indexes comprise the championship, first and second flight. They will play the "championship" tees.

Due to unplayable course conditions and continued forecasted rain amounts for Tuesday afternoon, July 2 into Wednesday, July 3, the Carolinas Amateur Championship sectional qualifier at Shadowmoss Plantation has been rescheduled for Monday, July 8. Shadowmoss Plantation has received over 23 inches of rain since June 1.

Greensboro, NC--PGA professional Jason Harris of Durham, NC and his junior partner McKenzie Barringer of Durham, NC shot a round of six under par 66 to capture the 8^th Carolinas Pro-Junior title.  Harris and Barringer blitzed the Donald Steel designed Farm course of Greensboro CC in Greensboro, NC with seven birdies and one lone bogey on the 209 yard par three.  “I hit some really good shots and McKenzie made all the putts” commented Harris, the Director of Golf at Treyburn CC.  This was the fourth time Harris and Barrin...
