SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (December 22, 2017) – Fulton Smith of Pinehurst, N.C. has been named the recipient of the David Parrott Boys' Award for 2017 by the Carolinas Golf Association. Smith was selected from the eight members that represented the Carolinas Golf Association in the Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team Matches at Boonsboro Country Club in Lynchburg, VA this past August. Smith is a two-time Carolinas Golf Association champion, winning the Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship in 2016 and 2017. He is currently ranked 7th in North Carolina by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association.

Smith, a high school junior at The O’Neal School in Southern Pines, N.C., carries a GPA of 4.14 and is a member of National Honor Society. “Fulton is the hardest working junior golfer that I have ever been around,” stated Country Club of North Carolina Head Golf Professional Andrew Glover. “What I admire most about Fulton is his integrity to always put the game of golf first. He leads by example and demonstrates to our young juniors honor and discipline,” added Glover. Smith has committed to play college golf at Wake Forest University.

The David Parrott Boys' Award is given annually to the Carolinas Team player who displays excellence in sportsmanship, ability, and academic excellence. The award is presented by Dr. Larry and Joy Parrott of Camden, SC in honor of their son David. David Parrot was diagnosed with leukemia in the spring of 1982, and during his brief illness he participated in the golf camp at Duke University and competed in the SCGA South Carolina Junior Championship, finishing third in his flight. He was given the Derek Davis sportsmanship award at the championship for his effort, determination and inspiration he gave to all who knew him. David died July 29, 1982, at the age of 16.

Smith joins a prestigious of past Parrott Award winners that include Tee Burton, Jonathan Byrd, Dustin Bray, Austin Reeves, Ben Kohles, Andy Knox, Henry Shimp, and 2016 recipient Ryan Marter. Smith will be presented the Parrott Award on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club during the Carolinas Golf Association’s Golf Night and Annual Meeting.
