SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 26, 2026) – The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and Carolinas Golf Foundation (CGF) are proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 David Parrott Memorial Scholarship. Awarded annually, the scholarships recognize high school seniors from across the Carolinas who demonstrate strong academic achievement, a connection to the game of golf and a commitment to serving their communities. 

 “We are extremely proud to see the continued growth of this scholarship program and even more proud of the hard-working students it supports,” said CGA Executive Director Andy Priest. “Each of this year’s recipients has shown an impressive commitment to their education, the game of golf and the communities around them. We are proud to recognize what they have already accomplished and excited to see where their next chapter takes them.” 

The Carolinas Golf Foundation awards $30,000 annually through the David Parrott Memorial Scholarship, providing six recipients with $5,000 each to support their college education. Applications are reviewed by an Awards Advisory Committee, with consideration given to academic performance, educational goals, community involvement and career aspirations. 

2026 David Parrott Memorial Scholarship Recipients 

Female Recipients 

Lauren Flynn – Chesnee, S.C. (Spartanburg Methodist College) 

Flynn helped Chesnee High School capture five consecutive state championships, earning All-Region and All-State honors and finishing runner-up individually at the state championship as a senior. She will continue her golf career at Spartanburg Methodist College, where she plans to pursue a degree in either exercise science or education. 

Ava Romansky – Spartanburg, S.C. (Anderson University) 

A two-time All-State selection and two-year captain at Dorman High School, Romansky helped the Cavaliers win three consecutive state championships and later finish as state runners-up. Away from competition, she has spent two years helping coach junior golfers through Operation 36 and will continue her golf career at Anderson University while pursuing nursing with aspirations of becoming a nurse anesthetist.  

Chloe Weigl – Boone, N.C. (Washington and Lee University) 

Weigl was named the Northwestern Conference Women's Golf Player of the Year as a senior at Watauga High School and previously earned Women's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year honors. A multi-sport athlete, musician and student leader, she has also volunteered in Hurricane Helene recovery efforts, youth programs and conservation initiatives and will attend Washington and Lee University. 

Male Recipients 

William Allender – Greer, S.C. (Clemson University) 

Allender was a six-year varsity golfer at Eastside High School while balancing academics, student government and extensive community involvement. A member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society, he also served as a peer tutor for students with special needs and participated in a student council that raised more than $500,000 for charity during his time in the program. Allender will attend Clemson University.  

Cayden Rejzer – Fairview, N.C. (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) 

Rejzer was a four-year varsity golfer at A.C. Reynolds High School, helping the program record its first undefeated season, while also serving as president of his school's DECA chapter. Ranked fourth in his graduating class, he has worked at Biltmore Forest Country Club, completed internships with the Buncombe County Communications Department and participated in Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. Rejzer will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

Matthew Roff – Spartanburg, S.C. (Rice University) 

Roff was a leader of the Spartanburg Day School golf team and will continue his playing career at Rice University, where he plans to study neuroscience. His service includes work with FEMA's National Youth Preparedness Council and Hurricane Helene relief efforts, while his professional experience includes a summer internship with Morgan Corp. working across accounting, equipment, safety and surveying. 

About David Parrott 

David Parrott was diagnosed with leukemia in the spring of 1982. During his brief illness, he participated in a golf camp at Duke University and competed in the South Carolina Junior Championship, finishing third in his flight. At the championship, Parrott received the Derek Davis Sportsmanship Award in recognition of his effort, determination and the inspiration he provided to those around him. 

Parrott passed away on July 29, 1982, at the age of 16. In 1986, the Carolinas Golf Association established the David Parrott Award in his memory, honoring junior golfers who display excellence in sportsmanship, ability, academic achievement and commitment to the game of golf. His legacy continues today through both the award and the David Parrott Memorial Scholarship.
