Carolinas Junior Boys' Preview

Spencer Oxendine will look to grab his second CGA title of the summer at the Members Club at Woodcreek.

SOUTHERN PINES, S.C. (July 18, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 69th Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship at the Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin, S.C. from July 24-26.

Players to watch:

  • Spencer Oxendine of Fayetteville, N.C. is the No. 1 ranked junior golfer in North Carolina and will look to continue his scorching play this summer. The 2019 N.C. State commit has not finished outside the top-7 at a tournament since February, and is fresh off of a second place finish at the Carolinas Am.

  • Seth Taylor of Gaffney, S.C. is the third ranked junior golfer in South Carolina and will look to finally break through after five top-five finishes in 2018. Taylor is committed to play golf at Coastal Carolina University in 2019.

  • Thomas Eubanks of Charlotte, N.C. has eight top-10 finishes so far this year, and is the eighth ranked junior golfer in North Carolina. Eubanks started last year's championship strong with a 69 in the first round, but struggled the rest of the way and will look to improve this time around.

  • Brady Hinkle of Lancaster, S.C. is ranked fifth in the South Carolina junior rankings and will look to build on a 10th place finish in last year's championship. Hinkle has five top-10 finishes in 2018 and will be playing at Coastal Carolina University this fall.

  • Pierce Robinson of Kings Mountain, N.C. is the 10th ranked junior golfer in North Carolina and will hope to build on a 14th place finish at last year's championship. The rising high school senior has three top-three finishes in 2018, including a first place finish at the NCHSAA 1A West Regional.

  • Nicholas Mayfield of Rock Hill, S.C. is the No. 8 ranked junior golfer in South Carolina and is coming off of a strong performance at the S.C. Junior Match Play Championship where he earned the No. 1 seed and made it to the quarterfinals. Mayfield was also able to grab a win at the Grant Bennett Florence Invitational last month.

  • Graham Chase of Charlotte, N.C. is the 16th ranked junior golfer in North Carolina. The rising high school senior has five top-15 finishes in 2018 and is coming off of a strong performance at the N.C. Junior Boys' Championship last month.

  • Garrett Cooper of Cowpens, S.C. is the 10th ranked junior golfer in South Carolina. The rising high school senior finished tied for sixth in last year's tournament and has five top-10 finishes in 2018 so far.
     

Designed by world-renowned architect Tom Fazio, the Members Club at Woodcreek was built on farmland back in the 1990's. The course is molded perfectly with the hardwoods, wetlands, and hills, creating a scenic and tranquil experience. This will be the second time the Members Club at Woodcreek hosted the Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship, the first being in 2010.


The tournament is conducted as 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 70 scores and ties.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 19th birthday by July 26, 2018, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member or their parent is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.4. Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event, by the CGA or the host club. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct or cell phone use during a stipulated round. All players must conform to the “USGA Rules of Amateur Status” as specified in the “Rules of Golf”. For complete residency and eligibility requirements, refer to the CGA Tournament Manual at the CGA website (www.carolinasgolf.org).

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
