Windermere Club to host Carolinas Boys'

The Carolinas Golf Association has announced that the 67th Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship will be conducted at The Windermere Club in Blythewood, SC on July 26-28, 2016.  The event will be a 54-hole stroke play tournament for junior boys’ from North Carolina and South Carolina 18 years of age and younger who have not started college.  An anticipated field of 144 golfers will compete on the golf course that has hosted the SC Amateur Match Play Championship three times (1994, 1999 and 2015), the 2001 Carolinas Women’s Match Play, the 2007 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball, the 2010 Twin States Girls’ along with many other prestigious amateur and professional events.

Each year junior golfers from across the Carolinas compete in this annual championship to see who the best junior golfer is.  Some of the past champions include Chip Beck, Dillard Pruitt, Tommy Biershank, Jonathan Byrd, Kyle Thompson, Bill Haas, Zach Byrd, Vince Hatfield, Lee Bedford, Davis Womble, Keenan Huskey and Henry Shimp just to name a few.  The champion receives exemptions into the Carolinas Amateur, Joe Cheves Junior Invitational, and Bobby Chapman Junior along with being invited to represent the Carolinas in the Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team Matches being hosted by River Landing CC in Wallace, NC on August 6-7, 2016.

The Windermere Club, the Midland's finest private golf facility, located near Columbia on beautiful Lake Windermere, only minutes from the state capitol of South Carolina.  A gorgeous Pete & P.B. Dye design golf course with gently rolling fairways leading to lightning-fast bent grass greens, is a superb test for the better golfer, yet forgiving enough for the higher handicapper, this course is a taste of true southern hospitality, where everyone who walks through the door is treated as a member.

The most unique aspect of this course, and most others designed by Pete Dye, is Pete's design philosophy, which dictates designing, in each 18, as many unique or "memorable" holes as possible. Windermere has 13 truly "memorable" holes. Most good golf courses have 2-5 such holes. No two holes of the Windermere course are remotely alike. This creates 18 totally different golfing experiences in one amazing course.

Registration opens on Monday, June 6th at 8 pm and all competitors must register by Monday, July 11th.
