Preview: 47th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 11, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 47th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at the Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C. from June 12-16, 2019.

2018 SCAMP Winner Christian SalzarPlayers to watch:

  • Christian Salzer (pictured right) of Sumter, S.C. is our defending champion. His other CGA Championship title came at the 2015 Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Invitational.

  • Logan Sowell of Kershaw, S.C., runner-up in this event last year, will try to best his finish at last year’s championship to bring home the title.

  • Harry Reynolds of Greenville, S.C., the 2018 Carolinian Amateur champion, made it all the way to the quarterfinals in this event last year.

  • James Lightsey of Indian Land, S.C. made it to the semifinals in this event last year and the championship match during the 68th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship in May.

  • Nick Russell of Hilton Head Island, S.C. made it to the quarterfinals in this event last year. He finished tied for 11th place earlier this year at the Carolinas Young Amateur.

  • Ryan Marter of Columbia, S.C. is looking for his second CGA title having won the Carolinas Four-Ball Championship in 2017. Marter finished tied for third in the 2017 Carolinas Amateur Championship.

Columbia Country Club offers 27 holes designed by famed architect Ellis Maples in 1961. These courses pair to make for long, tree lined fairways, vast rough and undulating fast greens. The championship will be played on the Ridgewood/Tall Pines courses. This will be the first South Carolina Amateur Match Play contested at Columbia Country Club.

The championship is contested at 36 holes of individual stroke play to determine 32 qualifiers for Match Play. The defending champion is seeded number one for match play if otherwise eligible.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by June 12, 2019, and is a legal resident of South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active USGA Handicap Index® that does not exceed 10.4 at a CGA member club.

Wednesday, June 12

First Round of Stroke Play Qualifying

Tee times starting at 8:00 am.

*Carolinas Amateur Qualifying

Thursday, June 13
Second round of stroke play qualifying. Cut to low 32 players for match play, playoff if necessary.

Tee times starting at 8:00 am.

Friday, June 14
First and second round of match play (18 holes each round).

Saturday, June 15
Quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of match play (18 holes each round).

Sunday, June 16
Championship match (18 holes).
