Caroline Crumrine of Wilmington, N.C. takes an early lead by three strokes with a two-under-par, 70 at the North Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship at Wilson Country Club in Wilson, N.C.

The first two rounds of the tournament are stroke play qualifying rounds to determine and seed the top 32 players that will advance to match play beginning on Wednesday afternoon.

Cool and overcast weather with some talented girls made for low scores heading into the clubhouse. Crumrine was happy with her consistency on the course and was able to play steady golf with five birdies and three bogeys.

“I was hitting fairways and greens. I made some putts and took advantage of some of the par fives. It felt like a really relaxed day,” said Crumrine.

Crumrine has an army of some of North Carolina’s highest-ranked junior girls behind her. Five players are tied for third place at one-over-par, 73.

2018 Carolinas Junior Girls’ Champion Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. is among the players at 73 behind Crumrine. “I hit fairways and greens. It gives me a lot of confidence but I am trying to save some golf for later in the week. I’m feeling good going into everything,” stated Atwood.

In addition to Atwood, Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Deborah Spair of Raleigh, N.C. Riley Hamilton of Reidsville, N.C.,Trinity Ahing of New Bern, N.C. all finished at 3-over-par 73.

Play will continue on Wednesday morning with the conclusion of stroke play qualifying and the Round of 32 matches in the afternoon.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the rest of the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
