Six Champions Crowned at Carolinas Net Am

 

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (November 7, 2023) -- Final results of the 13th Carolinas Net Amateur Championship at Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Southern Pines, N.C., on November 7, 2023.

Longleaf Golf & Country Club was the perfect backdrop for a fun and challenging stage over two days of net stroke play at the 13th Carolinas Net Amateur Championship.

 

 

Jessica Martinho-Stansbury of Raleigh, N.C., won the Women's division for the second year in a row by three strokes over runner-up Tia Shoemaker, also of Raleigh, N.C., Martinho-Stansbury finished at three-over, 147, winning yet another title, this year by three strokes.

 

 

 Vincent Avera of Greensboro, N.C., claimed the men's division by just a shot, finishing at five-over, 149 overall, over Scott Tarcy of Charlotte, N.C. Tarcy finished one stroke back at six-over. Michael Shepherd of Lewisville, N.C., and Mark Brockway of Pinehurst, N.C., both finished in third at seven-over.

 

 

 Cindy Stout of Columbia, S.C., earned the senior women's division title with an impressive six-stroke victory, finishing with a five-over, 149. Notably, she was the only player to card a round under par in this division with an opening round 68. Jamie McDevitt of hometown Southern Pines, N.C., earned runner-up status at eleven-over.

 

 

In the senior men's division, Destry Moose of Stony Point, N.C., fired off the two matching 73 rounds to claim the championship title at two-over, 146 total. Chris Sauer of Monroe, N.C., claimed runner-up at four-over.

 

 

 Bonnie Montgomery of Jamestown, N.C., was victorious in the super senior women's division with a seven-over, 151 finish. Jewel Braswell of La Grange, N.C., took home second place at thirteen-over, 157.

 

 The super senior men's division showcased another tight race this year with John Baldea of Myrtle Beach, S.C., coming out on top at one-over, 144. Michael Smith of Cheraw, S.C., Dale Olszewski of Pinehurst, N.C., and Chuck Latham of Vass, N.C., all finished just one stroke behind to claim runner-up at 1-over-par, 143.

 

 

 The Carolinas Net Amateur Championship, hosted in collaboration with the Carolinas Golf Association, South Carolina Golf Association, and Women's South Carolina Golf Association, comprised 36 holes of net stroke play using 100% of player's course handicaps. Players were placed into flights within their division for the final round. We want to extend a sincere thank you to the welcoming staff and members at Longleaf Golf & Country Club.
