Congratulations to Ethan Boyette of Wilson, N.C. on winning the 5th HV3 Invitational! Boyette shot 69-70 for a two-day total of 139, 4-under to take home the trophy. The tournament was played at both Cramer Mountain Club in Cramerton, N.C. and Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C.

Boyette played at Cramer Mountain Club for Round 1, and carded an impressive seven birdies to climb his way towards the top of leaderboard. After shooting a 69, 3-under-par in Round 1, Boyette put himself in second place heading into the Final Round on Sunday, just one stroke back from the lead held by Rich Wills of Cramerton, N.C. and Michael Snyder of Lillington, N.C.

For the Final Round, Boyette played at Gaston Country Club to vie for the title. It was a windy day, making conditions challenging for the field, proved by the ever-changing leaderboard. Boyette had his first birdie of the day on the eighth hole, and he fired off three more birdies on the back nine to get closer to the win. He headed into the last two holes with a two-stroke lead, giving him confidence as he came down the 18th hole. Boyette shot 70, 1-under at Gaston Country Club to finish at 139 for the weekend, 4-under-par, winning by four strokes.

“My putter got really hot this week. My chipping around the greens was great. My ball striking was really good; I really only hit about three or four bad shots that were no good. I was able to hit it decently close and make a bunch of putts,” Boyette shared regarding what he did well this weekend to earn the win.

Cramer Mountain Club and Gaston Country Club present different opportunities and challenges, and with some on and off rain in Round 1, and heavy winds in Round 2, there were lots of factors impacting the field.

When asked which course was more challenging this weekend, Boyette said “Gaston by far. The wind really picked up out here and the greens were really fast which kind of blew the ball around a little bit on the greens.”

With the summer season approaching, this win is a good boost to energize Boyette for tournaments ahead. Regarding how the win feels, Boyette said “It feels great. Every time you can win it feels good. I just need to keep the momentum going and keep on getting better, and hopefully I can just win by more next time.”

Talan Harrison of Kannapolis, N.C. and Rich Wills finished tied for second with a two-day total 143, even-par.

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of Cramer Mountain Club and Gaston Country Club for hosting the 5th HV3 Invitational. Most importantly, we would like to thank Harold Varner III and the HV3 Foundation for supporting this event.
