Dataw Island Club Hosts 45th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship April 16-18

45th CAROLINAS SENIOR FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP AT DATAW ISLAND CLUB IN DATAW ISLAND, SC

WEST END, NC -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 45th Senior Four-Four Championship will take place April 16-18 on the Cotton Dike course at Dataw Island Club in Dataw Island, SC.

The Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship format is 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 30 scores and ties. A tie for the overall championship is decided by an on-course playoff. Entry is open to any male golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by April 16, 2013, is a legal resident of North or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index at a CGA member club.

The Cotton Dike course was designed by leading architect Tom Fazio, who is known for his waterfront challenges. Jenkins Creek flows by nearly half of the 18 holes between emerald fields and fairways. In 2011 the Cotton Dike course was completely renovated. It plays to a par of 72 and is 6,799 yards from the championship tees.

This is the first CGA Major Championship hosted by Dataw Island Club.

A field of 60 teams made the field for the 2013 championship.

Returning to defend their 2012 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball victory are Paul Simson and Don Detweiler of Raleigh, NC. Last year at the Governors Club in Chapel Hill, NC, Simson and Detweiler carded 13 birdies in the final round en route to a 13-under-par 59 to win by seven strokes over Jim Grainger and James Pearson of Charlotte. Simson shot a 10-under-par 62 on his own ball.

Simson and Detweiler also won this championship in 2008 and 2010. It was the 24th Carolinas Golf Association title for Simson.

Grainger and Pearson are expected back this year to make another shot at the title. Also in the field are 2011 third place finishers Michael Bivens of High Point, NC and Trip Gentry of Greensboro, NC.
