Bae Leads the Way at Creed Boys'

CAMDEN, S.C. -- First Round results from the 3rd Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational at Camden Country Club on May 23, 2015. (YARDAGE 6,326, PAR 70, COURSE RATING 70.9)

The 3rd Creed Boys’ Junior Invitational kicked off at Camden Country Club the way it usually does, with a lot of head scratching. There have been few sub-par rounds recorded on the Par 70, 6,300 yard Donald Ross design. Eric Bae, of Pinehurst, NC, managed his way around the course to become only the third player in the tournament’s history to record red numbers shooting a one under, 69. Bae fresh off his 2015 North Carolina High School 4A State Championship victory attributed his solid round to his course management, “I definitely stepped up my golf management and tried not to miss in any bad areas, if I did I took my medicine.” Paired with Bae in the final grouping will be Walker Simas of Charlotte, NC, who also played in the NCHSAA 4 A State Championship. Simas finished tied for third in the 2nd Creed Boys’ Invitational. “I have played here a bunch of times and I know my way around the course, I think the biggest thing is knowing where to miss” said the junior from Myers Park High School. Holden Griggs, an eighth grader from Myrtle Beach, SC, will round out the grouping after firing a first round 72.

The Camden Country Club Board of Directors created the Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational in 2013 to honor Mr. Jimmy Creed of Camden, SC for his support of junior golf at Camden Country Club.  Mr. Creed passed away in October of 2012 as one of the most popular and well thought of members at Camden Country Club.  “He loved kids and was very supportive of the junior golfers at the club,” said Camden CC head professional Matt McCarley.  McCarley added, “He was a former junior champion here at the club and made it to the semi-finals of the CGA four ball championship.”  Proceeds from the tournament will go to a scholarship foundation to help local kids.
