Brinker, Rice Continue to Lead at Dogwood

11th Dogwood State Junior Championship

Round 2

Prestonwood CC (Meadows)  Cary, NC

August 5, 2015

Second Round Results

Cary, NC – Round 2 results for the 11th Dogwood State Junior Championship hosted by the Prestonwood Country Club (Meadows) in Cary, NC on Wednesday, August 5, 2015.

Walter Brinker of Sanford, NC did not start his round quite the way he would like but got the ball rolling shortly after. Brinker bogied his first hole of the day before rattling off three birdies in his next five holes to get himself back on track. The rising senior in high school finished the second round with a one under, 71. Brinker will enter the final round with a one shot lead over Michael Freeman of Asheville, NC. Freeman also started his second round with a first hole bogey but was able to make four birdies on the day for a three under par 69. Freeman sits at five under par total for the tournament. Joining Brinker and Freeman in the final pairing at 11:51am will be Kase Diehl of Charlotte, NC. Diehl has made nine birdies over two rounds to place him in solo third a mere two shots back of Brinker.

Defending Dogwood State Junior Girls’ Champion, Callista Rice of Mars Hill, NC, continued her great playing in the second round as she shot a one over par, 73. Rice’s second round 73 combined with her first round 71 places her at even par for the tournament entering the final round. Paired with Rice for the final round will be 2014 Carolinas Player of the Year, Sarah Spicer of Bahama, NC. Spicer shot a second round 72. Her even par second round brought her within one shot of Rice heading into the final round.
