Ashworth and Massengill to play for NC Junior Girls' Title

Greenville, NC--Match play can be very unpredictable and at times shocking.  Number one seed Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC continued her good play from the 36 hole stroke play qualifying defeating Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, NC 4 and 3.  But Spicer was upset in the quarterfinals by Hailey Freedman of Chapel Hill, NC.  Freedman, who was the number eight seed defeated Spicer by a 2 up margin to advance to the semifinals.  In the afternoon's semifinals match, Catherine Ashworth of Fuquay-Varina, NC defeated Freedman to reach the Friday morning's finals match.  Ashworth, an incoming freshman at East Carolinas, will face off against Grace Massengill of Hickory.  Massengill defeated Anna McDonald of Hickory, NC in the round of 16 5&4, Annie Collom of Charlotte 3&2 and advanced to the final match beating Samantha Vodry of Mooresville, NC by a margin of 4&2.  The finals match will begin at 8 am on Friday morning.

 

In the Tournament division, Meghan Symonds of Cary, NC defeated LeAnne Domitrovits of Newport, NC 1 up to win the final match in the tournament flight.  Symonds, a recent high school graduate, reached the final by defeating Hailey Joy of Reidsville, NC 3&2.

Brook Valley Country Club – an Ellis Maples designed course - located in Greenville, North Carolina is the newest addition located in the middle of prime East Carolinian real estate.
