Preview: NC Super Senior Championship

Preview - 8th North Carolina Super Senior Championship

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 8th North Carolina Super Senior Championship at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, NC on September 28-29.

In last year's championship, Ron Carpenter of Creedmoor came from two shots behind to win with a two-day total of four-under-par to claim his fourth CGA title. Other notable contenders are:

  • 3-time NC Super Senior champ Larry Boswell of Jamestown.

  • 3-time defending Carolinas Super Senior champ Arlis Pike of Kernersville.

  • 2012 Carolinas Super Senior champ John Walters of Charlotte.

  • 4-time CGA champions: Steve Wright of Deep Gap and last year's runner-up, Ernie Newton of Walburg.

  • 2011 and 2013 NC Super Senior champs Mike Sprouts of Newton and and Rick Luzar of Pinehurst.

Chapel Hill Country Club will host its third CGA championship

97 players are expected to compete in the 8th edition of the championship, which is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play.

The golf course at Chapel Hill Country Club was originally designed by Gene Hamm, and re-designed in 1999 by John LaFoy.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by September 28, 2015, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club that does not exceed 15.4.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
