Green Valley CC to host 39th SC Junior Match Play

The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) has announced that Green Valley CC in Greenville, SC will host the 39th SC Junior Match Play Championship on July 19-22, 2016.  An anticipated field of 144 juniors golfers, 32 girls and 102 boys, will compete on the George Cobb and Tom Jackson designed course that hosted the 1997 Carolinas Senior, the 2000 Carolinas Junior Boys, the 2003 SC Amateur Match Play, the 2012 Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball along with many other prestigious amateur and professional events.  Green Valley CC also hosted the SC Junior Match Play in 2003.
 
Located in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Green Valley CC is located on the north side of the economically diverse and vibrant city of Greenville, SC  Green Valley CC’s spectacular course was completed in 1958 by the world-renowned architect, George Cobb, and went through a major renovation project led by Tom Jackson in 2001. Eighteen spectacular holes of golf are situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and meandering through the natural terrain of the Reedy River Valley. The Reedy River is a factor on 10 holes with small lakes on 5 others.  In addition to our golf course, we offer a newly-renovated, expansive multiple targeted practice area, short game practice area and expansive putting green.
 
Registration for this annual championship opens on May 16th at 8 pm.
 
DATES
July 19-22, 2016

 
FORMAT
The championship format is match play with an 18-hole stroke play qualifier (Tuesday, July 19) to determine the seeding for match play. The top 15 girls and top 63 boys from the stroke play qualifier will advance to match play. Defending girls’ champion Ashley Czarnecki of Greenville, SC and defending boys’ champion Nick Willis of Cowpens, SC will be seeded number one for match play.  Once a player loses a match, they are eliminated from the tournament.
 
YARDAGES
Boys will compete at approximately 6,699 yards, par 72 (74.9 / 140)
Girls will compete at approximately 5,713 yards, par 72 (74.4 / 134)
 
AGE DIVISIONS
There are no age divisions.  Players will compete in divisions based on their gender.
 
ELIGIBILITY
Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12-18 as of July 19, 2016, who has not started college, is a legal resident of South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.3.
 
PRIZES
Trophies are awarded to the champion, runner-up, semifinalists, quarterfinalists, and the medalist.
