Top Players at Carolinas Senior Women's

Defending champion Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (September 22, 2016) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 18th Carolinas Senior Women's Championship at Seabrook Island Club's Ocean Winds Course on September 27-28. This is the fourth CGA championship hosted by the club. Designed by Willard Byrd, the course takes players to the Atlantic Ocean where the swirling breezes provide a challenging test of ability.

Players to Watch:

Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. has won 18 CGA Championships; seven of those wins are Carolinas Senior Women’s championships.  Moore is the top-ranked senior woman in the Carolinas.  Earlier this year, she claimed her fourth North Carolina Senior Women’s Championship title. Moore is one of two players that have won both the N.C. Senior Women’s and the Carolinas Senior Women’s Championships in the same year.

Two-time defending champion Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C., is the only other player to accomplish that feat.  Brogden has won ten overall CGA championships. In the past seven years, she has won the Carolinas Senior Women’s championship five times.  Brogden is ranked second among the Carolinas senior women. In last year's championship at Hendersonville Country Club, Brogden survived a three-hole sudden death playoff against Moore and Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C.

Susan Beaupied of Pittsboro, N.C., is currently ranked third for the Carolinas senior women’s rankings. This year she has had two top-five finishes and qualified for both the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur and U.S. Women's Senior Amateur Championships.  Beaupied is searching for her first CGA championship title.  Last year she had her second top-ten finish at this championship.

After finishing in the top-five the last two years of the Carolinas Senior Women’s Championship, Angela Stewart is looking to win her second CGA championship.  This year she earned a top-five finish at the N.C. Senior Women’s Championship.  Stewart is ranked fourth in the Carolinas senior women’s rankings.

Leigh Coulter of Hopkins, S.C. is the Carolinas senior women’s fifth-ranked player.  Last year at the Carolinas Senior Women’s Championship, Coulter finished in the top ten.  At this year’s WSCGA Senior Amateur Championship, Coulter earned a second place finish.

The championship is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play (no cut). All players, regardless of Handicap Index, have the option to play in the Championship Division or the Carolinas Division, which plays a shorter course.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by September 27, 2016, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club that does not exceed 40.4.

Defending Champions:
Senior Champion: Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C.
Super Senior Champion: Carole Jones of Hillsborough, N.C.
