Emilia Migliaccio and Lucia Polo in Finals at 17th NC Junior Girls Championship

Fuquay-Varina , NC – Quarterfinal and Semifinal Match Play results of the 17^th North Carolina Junior Girls Championship hosted by Bentwinds Golf and Country Club on Thursday, June 20, 2013.  Par 36-36—72  5876 yards.

14-year old Emilia Migliaccio of Cary, NC was able to get through two matches to find herself in the final championship match that eluded her last year.  The long hitting Migliaccio defeated Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC by a 3 and 2 margin and then went on to defeat Kate Collom of Davidson, NC by 4 and 3.  “I was pretty upset last year when I didn’t make it into the finals,” Migliaccio said.  “This week I’ve been feeling very confident and I’m excited to play for the championship.  I didn’t make many mistakes today which helped me have some good opportunities for birdie.” 

Lucia Polo of Greensboro, NC had to face off against friend and this weeks travel companion, Cecily Overbey of High Point, NC.  Polo would go on to defeat Overbey by 4 and 3 in the quarterfinals.  Polo, who is the reining Carolinas Junior Girls Champion, then had to play current CGA Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls Champion, Madison Moosa of Charlotte, NC.  Polo would eventually pull away on the back nine and also won her semifinal match by a 4 and 3 margin. 

Polo, who will attend the University of Tennessee in the fall, has a steady game and is looking for her second CGA championship title.  The champion will be invited to be a part of the exclusive Carolinas Junior Girls Team in the Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls Team Matches that will take place at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, NC on July 26-28, 2013.
