Former CGA President Steve Hinshaw Passes Away at Age 70

Stephen Garfield Hinshaw, 70, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2013, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Hinshaw was born in Yadkin County to the late Wendell and Lucy Hinshaw. A graduate of East Carolina University, he was employed by IBM for 25 years.

Steve had a life-long passion for golf, through which he created many of his lasting friendships. He served on the board of directors of the Country Club of North Carolina and was a past president of the Carolinas Golf Association.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dianne, of the home; his two daughters, Amy Hinshaw and husband, Paul Kurzeja, of Charlotte, and Sarah Hinshaw, of Winston-Salem; and his brother, John Hinshaw, of Raleigh.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to The First Tee of the Sandhills, 225 Pinehurst Ave, Ste B, Southern Pines, NC 28387 or FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
