Carolinas Golf Association Announces Revised Ranking Systems for 2014

West End, NC – The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) has announced revised ranking systems that will be implemented beginning on February 1 for Men, Women, Senior Men and Senior Women in the Carolinas.

For Men and Senior Men, the revised system combines the Carolinas rankings system with the Carolinas Team point standings. Additional events have been added to the rankings calendar along with a revision of event multipliers and bonus points.

A new policy was put into place requiring a player to have competed in either a CGA or South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) championship within the last 12 months to be eligible for the Carolinas Men’s or Senior Men’s Team.

For Women and Senior Women, additional events were added to the rankings calendar and a reallocation of event multipliers was implemented as well to balance like events. Also, rankings will be used to fill the Carolinas Women’s Team roster.

“We have been studying the possibility of combining the men’s rankings and team point systems for a number of years,” stated Andy Priest, CGA Director of Championships & Association Operations. “Player feedback was critical in determining the need for and shaping the new rankings system. It provided us an opportunity to review the rankings systems for both men and women and implement some recommended and needed changes.”

Carolinas rankings are used to determine the Carolinas Players of the Year, select Carolinas Team, Tar Heel Cup team, and USGA State Team members along with awarding exemptions into certain CGA championships. Junior golfers in the Carolinas are ranked by state.

Points are awarded for a top finish with bonus points for making cuts and advancing to match play at select events. Events are assigned a multiplier on a scale of one (lowest) to ten (highest) based upon field strength and tournament stature. Individual event points are calculated by adding place points plus bonus points multiplied by the event’s multiplier.

The rankings systems will continue to be updated on the 1st of each month. The CGA staff will use TPP Points, a module of the GHIN Tournament Pairing Program®, to manage the points systems and display them on the association website.
