Carolinas Announce USGA Men’s State Team Championship Representatives

WEST END, NC — The United States Golf Association will conduct the 11th USGA Men's State Team Championship at French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana on September 30 - October 3.

This biannual national championship began in 1995 as part of the USGA's Centennial celebration and is contested on the even years for men and odd years for women. The championships are open to players from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

State associations may use any criteria of their choosing in selecting their teams, which comprise three amateur, non-college golfers. The North Carolina lineup is selected by the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) while the South Carolina team is determined by the South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA). In 2012, North Carolina led after the first round before finishing ninth overall and South Carolina ended up in a tie for 13th.

This year both teams will be represented with a mixture of State Team rookies and experienced veterans. Each team has some first or second time participants and one player with four prior selections to the event. Both experienced players are serving as their respective team’s playing captain. North Carolina will have this year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion Scott Harvey at the helm while South Carolina will look to 2013 U.S. Walker Cup team member and 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur quarterfinalist Todd White for guidance.

The Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort will be set up at 6,891 yards and play to a par of 36-36-72. The event will be a 54-hole stroke play championship, with two of the lowest three individual scores counting for each round.
