In last year's championship held at Starmount Forest Country Club, Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro's even-par final round was enough to claim a two-stroke win over Steven Brame of Henderson. With the victory, Earnhardt set two records. His 54-hole total of 203 is a N.C. Mid-Amateur Championship scoring record (204 shot by Uly Grisette, III in 2008 & 2010). Earnhardt also became the first back-to-back winner in the championship's history.

Earnhardt will look to continue making history with a three-peat at this year's championship. Other past N.C. Mid-Amateur champions in the field include Joe Jaspers of Huntersville (2014), Scott Harvey of Greensboro (2012), and Paul Tucker of Waxhaw (2009).

  • Scott Harvey, 39, of Greensboro, the #1 ranked amateur in the Carolinas. The 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion and 2016 finalist, this year Harvey grabbed victories at the Coleman Invitational and George C. Thomas Invitational. He also qualified for the U.S. Open at Erin Hills.

  • Two-time defending champion Greg Earnhardt, 48, of Greensboro, is the second ranked mid-amateur in North Carolina behind Harvey.  Earlier this year, finished runner-up at the Carolinas Mid-Amateur.

  • Steven Brame, 35, of Henderson, is the fourth ranked mid-amateur in North Carolina. Brame was runner-up to Earnhardt last year. He has recorded top-12 finishes this year at the Azalea Invitational and Carolinas Mid-Amateur.

  • Sherrill Britt, 52, of West End, is ranked sixth among mid-amateurs in North Carolina. Britt claimed his first CGA title at the 2015 Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship. This spring he placed fourth at the Carolinas Mid-Amateur.

  • Three-time CGA champion Paul Tucker, 38, of Waxhaw placed T3 at last year's championship. This year, he notched top-30 finishes at the Carolinas Mid-Amateur and North Carolina Amateur. The 2009 N.C. Mid-Amateur champion, Tucker is currently ranked 7th.

The William Byrd-designed course at the Willow Creek facility has hosted numerous tournaments of regional and national significance, including qualifying events for the US Open and U.S. Amateur. From 1981 to 1990, the LPGA made Willow Creek a regular tour stop: first as The Henredon Classic, followed by The Planters Pat Bradley International from 1988 to 1990. Legendary names like Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan, Joanne Carner and Betsy King hoisted trophies during that time span. Among past and present members are names such as Dale Morey, Bubba Watson, Drew Weaver, Mike Goodes, Roger Watson and Tommy Langley. Since 1984, Willow Creek has hosted the National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame as well as its associated Championship Tournament, considered one of the top three senior amateur events in the country.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
