SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (December 12, 2017) -- Entering its 109th year of administering state and regional championships for amateur golfers, the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) has confirmed the sites and dates for the majority of its 2018 championship schedule. The CGA also announces changes to its tournament policies.

The 104th edition of CGA's flagship event, the Carolinas Amateur Championship, will be contested July 12-15 at the Country Club of North Carolina's Dogwood Course in Pinehurst, N.C. Originally designed by Ellis Maples and renovated in 2016 by Kris Spence, the Dogwood Course is regarded as one of North Carolina’s top five layouts. The course has hosted three Carolinas Amateurs (1969, '84, 2004) and seven North Carolina Amateur Championships. It also held the 1980 U.S. Amateur, 2010 U.S. Girls’ Junior, and seven Southern Amateurs. Following last year's renovation, the Dogwood Course is now the only 18 hole course in the Sandhills with zoysia fairways, and the series of water holes dotting most of the back nine nestled along Watson Lake is generally viewed as one of the most scenic golf experiences.

A handful of CGA member clubs are scheduled to host two championships in 2018. For the sixth consecutive year, Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C. will host two CGA championships in May. The Carolinas Four-Ball Championship returns to the club from May 3-6 for the 18th consecutive year. Read about changes to the Carolinas Four-Ball schedule in the policy changes section below. The 6th Jimmy Creed Boys' Invitational is set to be played at the club from May 26-27.

Both the Carolinas Junior Boys' (July 24-26) and the Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur will be conducted at The Members Club at Wildewood in Columbia, S.C. The Vicki DiSantis Girls' (May 12-13) will be played for the tenth consecutive year at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. The North Carolina Junior Boys' (June 19-22) will then be held at Pine Island CC for the first time since 2011. Another Charlotte-area club, Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C. will host the Carolinas Super Senior (May 9-10) and the North Carolina Amateur Match Play (Aug. 1-5). Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, N.C. welcomes both the Jimmy Anderson Boys' Invitational (Apr. 14-15) and the Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational (Oct. 6-7) for the ninth year in a row.

After receiving rave reviews while hosting the Carolinas Amateur last year, the Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C. will welcome the top senior golfers to play for the Carolinas Senior Amateur title from Sept. 13-15. This Rees Jones masterpiece embraces the rich, Lowcountry landscape and vegetation of Johns Island and the Kiawah River. There is no shortage of water, marshes, wetlands and wildlife, along with the occasional bunker, rough, and gently rolling, but quick putting surface.

In women's golf, the 92nd Carolinas Women's Amateur travels to Green Valley Country Club in Greenville, S.C., from June 3-5. Following a successful inaugural year of the Carolinas Women's Club Team, Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club will host the championship in 2018 from Oct. 30 - Nov. 1. Four-person teams representing a home club will play 18 holes of four-ball stroke play qualifying then rounds of four-ball match play.

The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA), which is the CGA’s program for North Carolina junior golfers, offers a tournament schedule geared for all levels of abilities. The majority of TYGA events are open to boys and girls ages 6-18 and "TYGA Tots" will continue to provide tournament golf experience for 6-11-year-olds. View the current 2018 TYGA schedule.

CGA Tournament Policy Changes That Take Effect in 2018

1. Carolinas championships (Carolinas Amateur, Carolinas Women’s Amateur, Carolinas Four-Ball, Carolinas Senior Amateur, etc.) are open to CGA members who maintain a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina. Note: This policy does not include state-specific championships (North Carolina Amateur, South Carolina Amateur Match Play, North Carolina Senior Amateur, etc.), which require members to be legal state residents.

2. The minimum age for mid-amateur eligibility has been lowered from 30 to 25.

3. The Handicap Index maximum for men’s CGA

championships has increased from 7.4 to 10.4.

4. Players may change CGA championship qualifying sites after the closing date if a spot opens up in a qualifying site.

5. The Carolinas Four-Ball Championship goes from five days to four with these additional adjustments: Thursday-Friday- 36-hole stroke play (and reduced to low 16 teams for Match Play); Saturday-Sunday- two 18-hole matches.

A complete list of CGA championships, qualifiers, one-day tournaments, senior four-ball one-day tournaments, ladies' one-day events, TYGA events, USGA qualifying in the Carolinas, and online registration will be available on the CGA website at www.carolinasgolf.org or by calling the CGA at 910-673-1000. Membership at a CGA member club is required to compete in any CGA championship or one-day tournament.
