Macon Moye Maintains Lead at NC Senior

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 15, 2018) -- Second round results of the 33^rd North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. on Tuesday, May 15th (6,191 yards, Par 34-36--70, Course Rating 69.3/131).

Macon Moye of Pinehurst extends his lead to three through two rounds

Macon Moye of Pinehurst was able to extend his lead that he owned to begin the day at the 33^rd North Carolina Senior Amateur. The 60-year-old sits atop the leaderboard at 7-under 133 through two rounds and now leads his closest competitor by three strokes. Moye posted one-under-par 69 Tuesday with four birdies and three bogeys.

Having scored 64 at Starmount Forest on Monday to open the championship, today Moye found trouble on the greens. "I hit it well like yesterday, but I had more trouble putting," said Moye.

Moye credits his ball striking for his strong performances in the opening two rounds, "I still hit the ball well and plan to keep doing that tomorrow."

If he can hang on to his lead tomorrow, it will be Moye's first North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship title and his fourth overall CGA win, his first since the 1998 North Carolina Mid-Amateur. "The last time I won a CGA Championship, I had darker hair," joked Moye.

He will have to keep his competitors at bay, though, with other challengers making a push. Harrison Rutter of Winston-Salem posted a 4-under, 66 on Tuesday and sits three shots back from Moye.

Keith Waters of Raleigh and Steve Harwell of Mooresville are also looking to swoop in and take the title, sitting at 3-under and 2-under, respectively. Harwell had it going early in the second round with three birdies on the first six holes, but bogeyed holes seventeen and eighteen to finish at 1-under for the day.

63 players made the 36-hole cut at 151, 11-over. Wednesday's final round will begin at 8:00am with the lead group starting play at 9:50am from the first tee.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4.
