New Scoring Record set at Carolinas Four-Ball

Medalists: Bobby Dean (L) & Robert Preston (R)

CAMDEN, S.C. (August 11, 2018) – Second round stroke play qualifying results from the 67th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship hosted by Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C. on Saturday, August 11, 2018. (6455 yards, par 35-35--70, Course/Slope Rating: 71.6/128).

Sunny, favorable scoring conditions welcomed players to Camden Country Club for the second consecutive day. Setting a new Carolinas Four-Ball record for stroke play qualifying score, the team of Robert Preston-Bobby Dean put on a putting clinic for two days and finished stroke play qualifying as medalists at total of 17-under par, 123.  Even with the all-time low stroke-play medalist score, the partners know anything is possible once this championship turns to Match Play.  “Anything can happen tomorrow, but if we keep putting like we have, we have a pretty good shot to win this,” Preston said.

Remarkably, a family affair broke out at Camden Country Club as three of the 16 teams that made it to Match Play are part of the Todd family from Laurens, SC.  Playing in the 8-9 match, brothers Walter Todd and T.D. Todd, Jr will match off being joined by their sons Walt Todd and Thomas Todd.

After the second round of four-ball stroke play qualifying, the field was cut to the low 16 teams for match play. 20 teams finished at six-under par 134 or better, leading to a 6-for-2 playoff.  Earning the 15th seed with a birdie on the second playoff hole was the team of Jon Parker-Neal Todd, who were tied for the lead after the first round.  Winning the 16th seed on the fifth playoff hole was the team of Brett Waters-Matthew Rogers.

The first two rounds of match play will commence on Sunday morning and afternoon. After three rounds of match play, the scheduled 18-hole championship match will be played on Monday afternoon.
