SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 13, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 13th Carolinas Mixed Team Championship at Kiawah Island Resort (Oak Point) in Kiawah Island, S.C. from August 18-19, 2018.

Last year, Zak Laws and Caroline Ellington of Raleigh, N.C. fired a three-under-par 65 in the final round to card a five-under-par 131 total to win their first CGA title. The defending champions will return to this year's field in hopes of capturing back-to-back titles. Jaelyn Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C., who won the 2018 Carolinas Women's Four-Ball a couple of weeks ago with her sister, Jodee, will also join the field with her partner, Alex Finke of Rock Hill, S.C.

This will be the first time Kiawah Island Resort has hosted the Carolinas Mixed Team Championship, but the course is no stranger to CGA events. The resort has hosted several one-day play day events, including  Senior Four-Ball One-Day tournaments.

Completely renovated in 2015, the new and improved Oak Point course was originally designed by Clyde Johnston, a noted Southeastern golf course architect, on the grounds of a former cotton and indigo plantation. With its close proximity to the Kiawah River and the Haulover Creek, the course is molded into the landscape and features undulating fairways and challenging greens.

The championship is contested over 36 holes using a mixed format of four-ball and modified alternate shot. Gross scores only. Teams may choose to compete in any division in which they are eligible: Championship division, Tournament division (shorter course), Senior division (male age 55+, female age 50+), or Super Senior division (male age 65+, female age 65+). Tournament division plays a shorter course and is ineligible for the overall championship. Tournament, Senior and Super Senior divisions will be pre-flighted by total team handicap index. Team handicap index is computed by adding 2/3 of the lower handicap index to 1/3 of the higher handicap index.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a male amateur and a female amateur golfer who have reached their 13th birthday by August 18, 2018, maintain a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, are members in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.
