It was another beautiful day at Kiawah Island Resort's Oak Point course for the final round of the 13th Carolinas Mixed Team Championship. The final round's format was modified alternate shot stroke play and it is always a challenge for competitors.

First round co-leaders Alex Burris of Greensboro, N.C. and Patricia Thompson of Hickory, N.C. didn't have a bit of trouble with the format, however. They carded an extremely impressive 5-under-par 62 in the final round to finish at 10-under-par for the tournament and take home the Carolinas Mixed Team championship trophies. The pair finished with an eagle, five birdies and only two bogeys on their scorecard. Their playing partners Jeff and Angela Altice of Wake Forest, N.C. finished one stroke behind the champions after carding a 68 in the final round.

In the Senior Division, Ken Taylor of Hopkins, S.C. and Leigh Coulter of Columbia, S.C. finished in red numbers for the tournament and took home the senior division title. The pair carded a one-over-par 73 in the final round, but their 69 in the first round kept them under par the tournament. Finishing second in the Senior Division was Charlie and Niza Hall of Hilton Head, S.C. at even-par 144.

Dennis and Bernice Slezak of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. finished at 151 to take home the top spot in the Super Senior Division. Although they struggled a little with the modified alternate shot format in the final round, they still finished three-strokes ahead of their nearest competitors.

Tracie and Steve Clark of Midland, N.C. finished with scores of 73-74--147 to win the Tournament Division.

The CGA would like to thank Kiawah Island Resort and the Oak Point golf staff for their hard work and hospitality.

The championship is contested over 36 holes using a mixed format of four-ball and modified alternate shot. Gross scores only. Teams may choose to compete in any division in which they are eligible: Championship division, Tournament division (shorter course), Senior division (male age 55+, female age 50+), or Super Senior division (male age 65+, female age 65+). Tournament division plays a shorter course and is ineligible for the overall championship. Tournament, Senior and Super Senior divisions will be pre-flighted by total team handicap index. Team handicap index is computed by adding 2/3 of the lower handicap index to 1/3 of the higher handicap index.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a male amateur and a female amateur golfer who have reached their 13th birthday by August 18, 2018, maintain a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, are members in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.
