COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 11, 2018) -- Final round results of the Carolinas Golf Association's 20th Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Championship at the Members Club at Wildewood in Columbia, S.C. on Tuesday, September 11 (Par 36-36--72, 5,409 Yards, Course/Slope Rating 71.7/127).

The Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Championship was shortened to 18 holes in anticipation of Hurricane Florence that is scheduled to sweep through the Carolinas in the upcoming days. Despite the shortened tournament, there was still great competition for the 20th playing of the Carolinas Golf Association's premiere senior women's championship. Susan Beaupied of Pittsboro, N.C. carded an even-par 72 to overcome the field and claim her very first CGA championship title.
The long par-five first hole at the Members Club at Wildewood provided a challenge for the field and like so many other players, Beaupied started out with a bogey. Beaupied did not let that affect her mindset, however, as she carded two birdies on the front nine to make the turn at one-under-par 35. Beaupied would continue that momentum and finish with only one more bogey, on the long par-four twelfth hole. She stayed steady and calm throughout the round and reaped the benefits of all the swing work she has been doing over the last year.
"Today was a great day because I'm seeing a turnaround in my game. I've worked for years to improve my swing and there was a lot of discouragement. But finally I think I am seeing a much improved swing, so today was just plain fun."
Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C. ended the day three strokes back of Beaupied to finish in second place, her second runner-up finish this season (Stewart also finished T2 at the North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur this year). 2017 runner-up Kathy Binkley of Cornelius, N.C. finished in solo third place with a five-over-par 77.
In the Carolinas Division (which plays a shorter course), Kelly Whitley of Greensboro, N.C. finished with a six-over-par 78 and defeated Janet Myers in a scorecard playoff to take Carolinas Division honors. Whitley recorded two birdies on the day and remained steady throughout the round.
Janet Myers of Charlotte, N.C. also carded a six-over-par 78 and finished with low super senior honors.
The Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Championship is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play (no cut), but was shortened to 18 holes due to Hurricane Florence. All players, regardless of Handicap Index, had the option to play in the Championship Division or the Carolinas Division (shorter course). The overall champion was determined from contestants playing in the Championship Division. An award was also given for the low super senior in the Carolinas division (ages 65 and over). The competition was pre-flighted by Handicap Index and included prizes for gross and net winners in each flight. Entry was open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by September 11, 2018, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
The CGA annually conducts 48 championships and five team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors.
