Announcing the 2018 CGAcers Hole-in-One Club Contest Winners



SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (January 30, 2019) -- One hundred and fifty-three (153) applications were submitted to the CGAcers club for holes-in-one in 2018. The average distance of those reported was 138.6 yards. The longest ace recorded was 331-yards by Scott Sperber from Pawleys Island, S.C. On April 19th, Sperber made this incredible shot on the 5th hole of The Heritage Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.  The shortest ace (67-yards) was made August 20th by Bob Dickson from West End, N.C. on the 6th hole of The Cradle at Pinehurst (Pinehurst Country Club).

Wildwood Green Golf Club in Raleigh, N.C. reported the most holes-in-one with fourteen.  The Walker Course at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. came in second reporting eight holes-in-one. Coming in a close third was Rolling S Golf Club in Waterloo, S.C. with seven reported holes-in-one. Interestingly, all four holes-in-one reported to have occurred at Carolina Springs Golf Club in Fountain Inn, S.C. were made on the 5th hole.


Players reporting of the significant accomplishment of two holes-in-one in a calendar year was up from two in 2017 to five in 2018. David Burke of Calabash, N.C. reported holes-in-one at Farmstead Golf Links (#17-136 yards-9 Iron) and Thistle Golf Club (#3-159 yards-8 Iron). Joe Easley of West End, N.C. reported holes-in-one at Quail Ridge Golf Club (#13-165 yards-6 Iron) and Seven Lakes Golf Club (#7-135 yards-9 Iron). Kendall Porterfield of Elon, N.C. reported holes-in-one at Meadowlands Golf Club (#6-142 yards-7 Iron) and The Challenge Golf Club (#4-105 yards-Pitching Wedge). Buddy Evans of Spring Lake, N.C. reported two holes-in-one, both made at Anderson Creek Golf Club’s hole #15 (170 yards-6 Iron and 146 yards-6 Iron). And, Mike McCall of Clinton, S.C. reported two holes-in-one, both made on the 3rd hole at Rolling S Golf Club (115 yards-7 Iron and 128 yards-7 Iron).

 

April 2018 was a lucky month for the Keoughs of Greenville, N.C. On April 26th, Jeff Keough made a hole-in-one at The Emerald Golf Club (#15-162 yards-7 Iron). Two days later, on April 28th, Jean Keough made a hole-in-one at Brook Valley Country Club (#18-125 yards-5 Hybrid).

The Carolinas Golf Association announced the winners of the 2018 CGAcer Hole-in-One Club Contest.  CGA members who made a hole-in-one in 2018, submitted an application, and carry a USGA/CGA handicap were eligible. Prizes for the annual drawing for hole-in-one winners:

  • 1st Place – CGA Golf Belt, CGA Hat, CGA Towel, CGA Head Cover, USGA Player’s Edition of the Rules of Golf, and Golf in the Carolinas Centennial Book
  • 2nd Place – CGA Golf Belt, CGA Hat, CGA Towel, CGA Head Cover, and USGA Player’s Edition of the Rules of Golf,
  • 3rd Place – CGA Golf Belt, CGA Hat, CGA Towel, and USGA Player’s Edition of the Rules of Golf, Hat

The 2018 CGAcer winners were:

  • 1st Place -  Bob Hounsell of Raleigh, N.C. (Member of Wildwood Green Golf Club)
  • 2nd PlaceMike McCall of Clinton, S.C. (Member of Rolling S Golf Club)
  • 3rd Place -  Robyn Marshall of Raleigh, N.C. (Member of Wildwood Green Golf Club)

 

ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN FOR 2019

Join the fun!  If you are a CGA member who makes a hole-in-one in 2019, let us know.

The CGA will be awarding prizes again for 2019. The random drawing will take place before January 30, 2020, and all holes-in-one must be received at the CGA office no later than January 15, 2020.  The CGAcer hole-in-one form is available on our website and must be completed and submitted for eligibility.  The hole-in-one must be scored from January 1 through December 31, 2019. Your name will be entered for EACH hole-in-one made in 2019.  You must be a current CGA member and carry a USGA/CGA handicap to be eligible. CGA Staff, executive committee members, and their families are ineligible. Prizes will change annually.

The CGAcers Hole-in-One program is one of many services offered by the Carolinas Golf Association.
