Defending your title is never easy. Pulling off a three-peat victory is something only the best are ever able to accomplish.  Pat Brogden of Garner is one of the best Carolinas-based women golfers of all time and now she can add another feather to her cap after winning the North Carolina Senior Women’s Amateur Championship for the third year in a row; her sixth win of this event alone.

It's hard to put into words,” Brogden said about the meaning of being a six-time N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur Champion. “It's not something I ever expected I would accomplish. It means you've played some pretty good golf for a good period of time to do it six times. I'm extremely proud.”

Patty Moore of Pinehurst began the day with a two-shot lead, but it was tied at the top after a two-shot swing on the first hole when Brogden birdied and Moore made a bogey.

Brogden didn’t capture the lead until the par-4, 13th hole but never gave it up after that point.

Brogden carried a one-shot leading going into the final hole. She made a 12-foot birdie putt on the final green to seal the deal and bring home the hardware.

“I'm always working on my short game and putting,” Brogden said. “That really saved me today and has throughout my career.”

Brogden finished the championship at six-over-par, 150 over the two rounds. Moore finished in second place with a nine-over-par, 153.

“You know when Patty's in the field and you’ve defeated her at the end of the day you've defeated the best champion we've ever had,” Brogden said after the win.

Today’s win marks the 14th lifetime CGA championship title for Brogden. Moore remains the all-time CGA women’s championship title holder with 19 wins but today’s victory brings Brogden one step closer to challenging the record.

Kim Briele of New Bern finished in third place with a 13-over-par, 157 total for the championship.

Kelly Whitley of Greenboro won the N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur’s Carolinas Division with 16-over-par, 160 total for the two rounds.

Therese St. Peter of Pittsboro finished as the low Super Senior in the Carolinas Division of the championship.

The CGA wishes thank the members and staff at Chapel Hill Country Club, especially Director of Golf, Joe Alden, Head Professional, J.P. Morrison, III,  Director of Agronomy, Scott Tomecek and General Manager, Mike Blazer.
