Preview: SC Junior Match Play Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 8, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship at Berkeley Country Club in Moncks Corner, S.C. from July 9-12, 2019.

Players to watch:

Girls’ Division

  • Anna Grace Brock of Greenwood, S.C. is the 11th ranked golfer in the SCJGA Girls' Rankings. Brock has seventeen top-10 finishes in the past year and is coming off of a strong performance in the WSCGA 2019 State Women’s Amateur where she finished tied for sixth. Brock was the stroke-play medalist in this event last year and finished runner-up to the eventual champion.
  • Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. has had an impressive summer thus far with three top-10 finishes including a fourth place finish in the WSCGA 2019 State Women’s Amateur.
  • Phoebe Carles of Clinton, S.C. started off her summer with a big win at the WSCGA Foundation Junior and is looking to add this event to her resume as her first CGA Championship.

Boys’ Division

  • Austin Scott of Daniel Island, S.C. is the ninth ranked golfer in the SCJGA Boys’ Rankings. Scott is on fire this year winning the 2019 South Carolina Junior Championship, Palmetto Christian Tri-Match, and the AAA Lower State. 
  • Daniel Coker of Hartsville, S.C. has had three top-10 finishes this summer and is coming off of a strong third place finish at the 2019 US Junior Boys’ Qualifier at DeBordieu Golf Club. 
  • Pake June of Florence, S.C. has won his last two tournaments, the 2019 Grace Bennett Junior and the 2019 Florence Chapter at Traces, and is looking to continue this hot streak with a strong performance in this event. 
  • Mason Tucker of Lancaster, S.C. is the 11th ranked golfer in the SCJGA Boys’ Rankings. His last CGA championship was the Creed Boys’ in which he tied for 17th.

Berkeley Country Club offers 18 scenic holes designed by 2019 Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame Inductee and famed architect George W. Cobb in 1967. This will be the first South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship at Berkeley Country Club.

The championship format is match play with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine the seedings for match play. Boys’ defending champion and Girls’ defending champion will be seeded number one for match play. The top 63 boys and the top 15 girls from the stroke play qualifier (July 9) will advance to match play. Once a player loses a match, they are eliminated from the tournament.

Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer who has not reached their 19thbirthday by July 12, 2019, who has not started college, is a legal resident of South Carolina, is a member or their parent is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.4.
