After the only under-par round of the tournament, Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. claimed the title of 13th Carolinas Girls’ 15 and Under Champion with a 4-over-par, 148 total. Not only was Ketchum the only under-par round of the tournament, but her nearest competitor finished seven strokes behind her.

Ketchum attributed her incredible round to playing simple, smart golf. “I was just hitting the ball in the fairway to put myself in a good position, then I would chip up close to the pin, and leave myself a makeable putt,” said Ketchum.

Ketchum had a simple strategy that led to her five birdies in the final round, “I just wanted to play a good round of golf and see how that compared to everyone else since I cannot control how they play. I can only control how I play.”

“It means a lot to win this championship, because it really is a huge honor. I am happy that this tournament will continue on as girls golf in the area builds,” said an incredibly thankful and proud Ketchum after her big win.

Ella Kue of Kings Mountain, N.C. is the 13th Carolinas Girls’ 15 and Under Championship Runner-up with an 11-over-par, 155 total finish. She had three birdies in her final round today.

“I am happy that I was able to move up two places in the rankings,” said Kue. “I know there is room for improvement for next year, but I am excited to be the runner-up this year.”

Third place was captured by Macy Pate of Boone, N.C. who carded 12-over-par, 156 total this week, but had a 2-over-par finish in her final round today. She improved her round from yesterday by eight strokes this afternoon.

McKenzie Daffin of Fort Bragg, N.C. claimed solo fourth with a 14-over-par, 158 total. Trailing Daffin at 15-over-par, 159 total are Ella Stalvey of Blythewood, S.C. and Heather Appelson of Wake Forest, N.C. who tied for fifth place.

Jenna Kim of Raleigh, N.C. captured the title in the Junior Division with her 17-over-par, 161 total. Kim is just 10 years old and carding incredible scores in a tough field. The Sub-Junior Division was won by Sanaa Carter of Jacksonville, N.C. who managed a 19-over-par, 91 total in her two 9-hole rounds this week.

The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank the club members and staff of Country Club of Whispering Pines for hosting this event, especially the Head Golf Professional, Rodney Russell. The CGA would also like to thank all the volunteer Rules officials who made this a truly special event for the players.
