Carolinas team selected for 37th Virginia-Carolinas Junior Boys' Team Matches

 

LYNCHBURG, VA (August 6, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association, in association with the Virginia State Golf Association, will conduct the 37th Virginias-Carolinas Junior Boys’ Team Matches at Boonsboro CC in Lynchburg, VA from August 10-11, 2019.

The annual team match event pits the best junior boys golfers from North and South Carolina against their Virginia and West Virginia counterparts. The championship consists of four foursomes matches, four four-ball matches and eight singles matches.

Carolinas Team

Peter Fountain, class of 2020 from Raleigh, N.C., won the 2019 NC Junior Boys’ Championship and is the number one player in the Junior Rankings of the Carolinas. Fountain also won the 2019 Neuse High School Invitational, the TYGA Pinehurst High School Invitational, and the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. He finished third at the 2019 Carolinas Amateur. Fountain is committed to play at UNC Chapel Hill.

Matthew Hutto, class of 2021 from Blythewood, S.C., was the runner up at the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship. He also won the SCJGA Columbia Chapter’s Oak Hills CC, Camden CC and Golden Hills tournaments. Hutto finished tied for ninth at the 2019 Blade Junior Classic and tied for 11th at the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea this summer as well.  

Spencer Oxendine, class of 2019 from Fayetteville, N.C., won the 2018 Hope Valley Junior Invitational. He also finished fourth at the 2019 Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship, tied for sixth at the 2019 SCJGA Sea Pines Junior Heritage, tied for ninth at the 2019 Carolinian Amateur, fourth at the 2019 North Carolina Open and tied for 24th at the 2019 Carolinas Amateur. Oxendine is ranked seventh in the Junior Rankings of the Carolinas and is committed to play at NC State University.

Kenan Poole, class of 2019 from Raleigh, N.C., won the 2018 and 2019 Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championships. Poole also qualified for match play at the 2018 US Junior Amateur, finished tied for 20th at the 2018 Hope Valley Invitational and finished tied for seventh at the NCISAA 4A State Championship. Poole is signed to play at UNC Chapel Hill.

Zachary Reuland, class of 2020 from Rock Hill, S.C., won the 2019 Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational as well as the 2019 South Carolina 5A State Championship. Reuland, who is ranked second in the Junior Rankings of the Carolinas, also finished tied for fourth at the 2019 South Carolina Junior Championship and tied for second at the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea.

Pierce Robinson, class of 2019 from Kings Mountain, N.C., won the 2019 Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship. He also finished tied for sixth at the 2019 Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship, tied for 17th at the Carolinas Amateur and 24th at the 2018 Hope Valley Junior Invitational. Robinson is ranked 29th in the Junior Rankings of the Carolinas and will play college golf at Washington and Lee University.

Mason Tucker, class of 2021 from Lancaster, S.C., won the 2019 South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship and the 2019 Blade Junior Classic in back to back weeks. He also finished tied for 14th at the Carolinas Junior Boys and tied for 17th at the Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational. Tucker is ranked 17th in the Junior Rankings of the Carolinas.

Keegan Vaugh, class of 2020 from Myrtle Beach, S.C., won the 2018 South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship and tied for second at the 2019 Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational. He also tied for eighth at the Dustin Johnson World Junior, second at the SCJGA Morgan Lucas Championship, and tied for 18th at the 2019 South Carolina Junior Championship.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
