Preview: 19th NC Senior 4-Ball Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 6, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 19th North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship at Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane, N.C. from August 8-10, 2019.

Kelly Stimart of Charlotte, N.C. and Johnny Elam of Charlotte, N.C. are back to defend their title at the 19th North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship begin contested this year at Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane, N.C.

 

The duo edged out the team of Gary Hull of Cornelius, N.C. and Randall Sullins of Claremont, N.C. to capture their first CGA Championship titles. Sullins is teaming up with one half of the 2019 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball winning team, Patrick Brady of Reidsville, N.C., to see if they can improve on last year’s results.

Our defending champs will be paired with the 2017 championship winning team of Nolan Mills III of Charlotte, N.C. and Robby Kirby of Charlotte, N.C. for at least the first two rounds of the event.

Other notable teams in the field include the 2016 champion team of Preston Edmonson of Morrisville, N.C. and Edward Byman of Raleigh, N.C. They are paired with the 2009 and 2013 N.C. Senior Four-Ball Championship team of Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. and Don Detweiler of Raleigh, N.C. for the first two rounds of play.

The field for the 2019 championship is expected to consist of 54 two-man teams. The championship format is 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 30 scores and ties. A tie for the overall championship is decided by an on-course playoff. 

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by August 8, 2019, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the CGA and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.

This will be the third CGA Championship contested at Mill Creek Golf Club. Both the 2001 and the 2016 North Carolina Four-Ball Championships were hosted at the club.

Mill Creek Golf Club is situated on 650 acres in Mebane, North Carolina. The course has been carved out of land which seems to have been long-destined to become a golf course. Designed by Robbins/Lussier/Koch it was completed in 1995 and features Ultradwarf Bermuda greens, Bermuda fairways, tree-lined fairways and hilly terrain. Water comes into play on several holes. The signature hole is No.18, a 428-yard, par 4 offering the player two fairways to choose from.
