Holder Takes Early Lead at the Vicki DiSantis Girls'
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 24, 2019) – First round results of the 14th Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. on August 24, 2019.

A dark rain cloud hung over Pine Island Country Club all day Saturday but it didn’t seem to bother Chloe Holder of Williamston, S.C. Holder shot a 1-under-par, 71 to take the round-one lead at the 14th Vicki DiSantis Girls’ Championship.
Holder’s round didn’t have a lot of squares or circles but a simple score card can be a good thing as she was the only golfer in the field to shoot under par in round one.
“It was just steady golf,” said Holder. “I hit greens and two-putted. I was trying to make birdies but I wasn't mad with a par.”
Holder’s first birdie of the day came on the par-4, second hole. She made her only bogey of the day on No. 6 and didn’t make another birdie until No. 18.
“After the bogey on six, I just let it go because I was still even and I knew there were plenty of holes to make birdie,” said Holder. “I just stayed steady.”
Holder will take a two-shot lead into Sunday’s final round. Both Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. and Macy Pate of Boone, N.C. shot 1-over-par, 73 in the first round. Alexia Siehl of Fort Mill, S.C. sits in solo fourth place after a 2-over-par, 74.
“I honestly think chasing the leader is sometimes better because you have a different mentality. You can be a little more aggressive with it.” said Holder. “But being in the lead is also good.”
Holder, class of 2021, has not yet committed to play college golf. A win for Holder at the Vicki DiSantis Girls’ Championship would round out an already accomplished summer that includes a win at the WSCGA South Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship and a position on the Carolinas Team in the Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls’ Team Matches.
The Vicki DiSantis Girls' Championship is 36 holes of stroke play competition. Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18, who has not started college, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.3.
