The N.C. Mid-Amateur Championship returns to The Club at Irish Creek for the first time in 20 years. In 1999, Bob Stanger of Durham, N.C. won the first CGA championship hosted by the club; known as Kannapolis Country Club at the time. The club has since hosted three other CGA championships, but this year’s event will be the first since the 2009 N.C. Senior Women’s Championship won by Melissa Sage of Charlotte, N.C.

This year’s event will boast one of the strongest fields in the Championship’s history having four past champions and seven runners-up.

N.C. Mid-Amateur Champions (4): Paul Tucker of Waxhaw, N.C. (2009), Brian Westveer of Charlotte, N.C. (2011), Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro, N.C. (2015, 2016), Matt Kilgo of Charlotte, N.C. (2018).

N.C. Mid-Amateur Runners-Up (7): Eric Ardery of Durham, N.C. (1998), Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro, N.C. (2003), Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, N.C. (2012, 2013, 2015), Paul Tucker of Waxhaw, N.C. (2012), Daniel Neveu of Pinehurst, N.C. (2015, 2017), Steven Brame of Henderson, N.C. (2016), Justin Pennell of Lenoir, N.C. (2017).

Carolinas Mid-Amateur Champions (3): Paul Tucker of Waxhaw, N.C. (2011), Mathew Crenshaw of Burlington, N.C. (2014), Stephen Woodard of Charlotte, N.C. (2019).

The Championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke-play competition. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round. An on-course playoff is used to break a tie for the championship. The top 30 scores will receive merchandise and are exempt into the 2020 N.C. Mid-Amateur Championship.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 25th birthday by September 20, 2019, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4.
