Preview: 8th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball


SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (October 7, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 8th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship at the Country Club of Wakefield Plantation, in Raleigh N.C. from October 8-9, 2019.

Don Detweiler and Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. are back to defend their title at the 8th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by The Country Club of Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh, N.C. The duo is going after their ninth CGA four-ball championship as a team and their third of the year. Earlier this year they won the N.C. Senior Four-Ball at Mill Creek Golf Club and the N.C. Super Senior Four-Ball at Pinewild Country Club.

Last years’ 70+ Division Champions, Ernie Newton of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Larry Boswell of High Point, N.C. are also back to defend their title. Newton was half of the team that won the first four years of the Championship with partner, Jim Pridgen.

Other Notables Teams in the Field:

The 2017 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball champion, Ronald Carpenter of Creedmoor, N.C., is paired up with Tim Pope of Spartanburg, S.C. Carpenter has several top-ten finishes this year including a T7 at the N.C. Super Senior. Pope also has several top-ten finishes as well including wins at the CPGA Senior Challenge (Super Senior) and the CPGA Shootout at Myrtle Beach (Super Senior). Pope finished runner-up in the Carolinas Super Senior Championship.

The 2016 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball champion, Russ Perry of Winston-Salem, N.C. is paired up with Gary Hull of Statesville, N.C. Perry, the 2018 Carolinas Men’s Super-Senior Player of the Year, is back on top in the 2019 POTY rankings. Perry’s biggest win of the year came at the Carolinas Super Senior Championship. He also won the Durham Senior Amateur (Super Senior), the CGPA Senior Open (Super Senior) and the CPGA Sandhills Senior Open (Super Senior). He finished runner up in the North Carolina Senior Amateur (Super Senior).

The championship is contested at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play (Gross scores only). A tie for the Championship Division or 70+ division is decided by an on-course playoff. Teams select the division in which to compete if eligible.

Championship Division (Men Age 65+): Approximate yardage = 6000 yards.

70+ Division (Both team members age 70+): Approximate yardage = 5800 yards.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65thbirthday by October 8, 2019, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
