Preview for 54th Carolinas Father-Son and 23rd Carolinas Parent-Child Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 16, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 54th Carolinas Father-Son and 23rd Carolinas Parent-Child Championship at Pinehurst Area Courses in Pinehurst, N.C. on July 17, 2020.

54th Carolinas Father-Son Championship:

The overall champion will be determined at Longleaf Golf and Family Club. Other host clubs include Legacy Golf Links, Foxfire Resort (Red Fox), Country Club of Whispering Pines (Pines), and Hyland Golf Club. 

Each team plays an alternate shot except that both team members hit from each tee and then select the ball to be played (modified alternate shot). A team must complete the hole with the ball selected.  Teams may compete in whichever division they are eligible:  Amateur Division, 13 & Under Division , Super Senior Division,  Open Division. The approximate Yardage (*Note: yardage is subject to change): Amateur Division Championship Site=6,500 yards;  Amateur Division (all other sites)=6,000-6,200 yards Open Division:; Professionals=6,500 yards; Amateurs=6,000-6,200 yards;  13 & Under Contestants=5,600 yards;  Super Senior Contestants=5,600 yards

Stan Adams of Dudley, N.C. and Nicholas Adams of Goldsboro, N.C. are the reigning 2019 champions. They are looking to defend their title this year at Longleaf Golf and Family Club.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a father and son, stepfather and stepson, father-in-law and son-in-law or grandfather and grandson. At least one member of each team must: 1.be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas; 2.be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN®USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club oris a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are NOT eligible.

23rd Carolinas Parent-Child Championship:

The 23rd Carolinas Parent- Child Tournament will be conducted at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club on July 17, 2020. 

Kevin and Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill S.C. are back to defend their title after winning the championship trophy at the 22nd Carolinas Parent-Child Championship with a score of three-under-par, 69.

Emma and Steve Charles of Hartsville, S.C. finished in first place in the amateur division with a score of two-under-par, 70.

  • 2018: Jon and Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C. 

  • 2016, 2013, 2012, 2011: Gary and Lauren Robinson of Fayetteville, N.C. 

Each team plays an alternate shot except that both team members hit from each tee and then select the ball to be played (modified alternate shot). A team must complete the hole with the ball selected. Teams select the division in which to compete if eligible.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a parent and child, regardless of age in any gender combination, excluding male-male. Step-parents, grandparents and in-laws are eligible. At least one member of each team must be 1) be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas 2) be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are not eligible.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909. About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
