Five Punch Their Ticket to the U.S. Open


HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (June 7, 2021) -- Final results of the U.S. Open Local Qualifying at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on Monday, June 7, 2021 (7,094 yards, par 36-35--71).


The day began with 51 fierce competitiors ready to battle it out at Long Cove Club for five qualifying spots and two alternate positions that were available at this qualifying site.


Four players shared medalist honors by finishing the "Longest Day in Golf" at 5-under-par, 137. John Huh of Lewisville, Texas, Sam Ryder of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Wilson Furr of Jackson, Miss. and John Spaun of Scottsdale, Ariz. earned their ticket to Torrey Pines after 36 holes of intense competition. 


Three players tied for fifth just one stroke off the lead at 4-under-par, 136 overall. Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, N.C., Zach Sucher of Birmingham, Ala. and Ben Martin of Greenville, S.C. headed into a three-for-one playoff that ended with a par putt from Bhatia on the second playoff hole. The 19-year-old is the only Carolinian to qualify at this site, however Martin earned second alternate and Sucher claimed first alternate.
