Fisher Kennedy of Winston Salem, N.C. and Tommy Gibson of Mount Airy, N.C. are crowned the 15th Carolinas Pro-Junior champions. The Pro-Junior Championship pairs a golf professional along with a junior member from their club to compete against other teams from around the Carolinas. The pair proudly represent the Old Town Club in Winston Salem, N.C., where Gibson is an assistant professional and Kennedy is a member.

The field played through steady rainfall all through Monday, but at the conclusion of the tournament, the two donned their rain gear and were all smiles around. “We feel pretty good,” said Kennedy. “When you win it’s always good.” “Fisher played great,” said Gibson. “It was an all around good team effort.”

Gibson and Kennedy fired an impressive 6-under-par, 66 on Monday to win the championship by one stroke over a stacked field of junior and professional competitors alike. The duo clearly worked well together, and were on a hot streak, making five birdies, and eagling No. 8, a par 5. “Tommy puts it in the fairway for me to hit the green,” Kennedy said with a laugh. “We emanated pretty well,” added Gibson.

During the final stretch of the round, all players were met with a heavy downpour, but Gibson and Kennedy remained present and focused all while putting an emphasis on faster, more efficient play. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Fisher run so fast,” said Gibson. “He ran to the tee like he was trying to win the Olympics and hit the best drive of the day. We were trying to get the ball in the hole before too many puddles got on the green.”

Three teams finished tied for second place. Tyler Peterson of Charlotte, N.C. and Will Hartman of Marvin, N.C., Barry Pierce of Waxhaw, N.C. and Colin Salema of Matthews, N.C., Gray Mitchum of Winterville, N.C., and Bryce Hendrix of Greensboro, N.C. all fired an impressive 5-under-par, 65. The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of Providence Country Club for their hospitality. Special thanks to Head Professional, Fergal O’Shea, Director of Golf, Kevin Reardon, and Course Superintendent, Mark Scott. 15th Carolinas Pro-Junior
