Winning a modified alternate shot tournament can be more complex than your average tournament, as it requires both players to play very solid. Walter Todd and Neal Todd of Laurens, S.C., who has a history of playing well, finally managed to get over the hump and capture the Carolinas title after some very close calls.

“We’ve won two father-sons with the South Carolina Golf Association and we lost in a playoff here before. This is just as important as any tournament I play in,” said Walter. “It means a lot, shoot we’ve had a lot of close calls and this means a lot,” added son Neal.

The Todds put together a very strong 18 holes of golf, starting with the very first hole, where Neal put his approach to two feet to kick things off. They would card seven birdies and a huge eagle on the sixteenth to fire a 9-under (63).

“We always keep the ball near the hole, never had any bogeys, made a few birdies, and kept it going,” Walter Todd said.

Finishing at 6-under and in a four-way tie for second were Tee Burton and Reed Burton of Shelby, N.C., Nolan Mills III and Nolan Mills of Charlotte, N.C., Scott Newton and Lincoln Newton of Wallburg, N.C., and Chris Owen and McGwire Owen of Mount Ulla, N.C.

Jon Weiss and Jon Weiss Jr of Florence, S.C., captured the B-flight with a 5-under (67), while Rex Willoughby and Ty Willoughby of Chapel Hill, N.C., took home the C-flight recording a 4-under (68).

Jeremy Revis and Pete Revis of Greenville, S.C., fired off an even-par 71 at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club to win the 13 and Under Division. Also, with a 3-under-par 68 at Southern Pines Golf Club, Reece Hart and Marcy Newton from Winston-Salem, N.C., earned the Pro-Am title. Wes Minton and Will Minton of Raleigh, N.C., captured the Super Senior title with a 4-under-par 68 finish at Longleaf Golf and Family Club.

The CGA would like to extend a thank you to the members and staff of all of our host clubs, Legacy Golf Links, Pinewild Country Club, Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club, Mid South Club, Longleaf Golf and Family Club, and Seven Lakes for their hospitality in hosting the 56th Carolinas Father-Son Championship.
