Southern Pines, N.C. (July 21, 2025) – Success in a modified alternate shot format requires more than skill; it takes rhythm, trust and teamwork. Scott Newton of Wallburg, N.C., and his son Grady Newton found just that, firing a 4-under 67 to capture the title at the 58th Carolinas Father-Son Championship, hosted at Southern Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Their round at Southern Pines Golf Club edged out a strong field, including several past CGA champions and family pairings with impressive resumes.

Finishing one shot back at 3-under 68 were two talented teams including eight-time CGA Champion and 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion, Scott Harvey of Greensboro, N.C. and his son, Cameron Harvey of Kernersville, N.C., and Jon Weiss and Jon Weiss Jr. of Florence, S.C.

Four teams tied for fourth at 2-under, 69, including:

    Nolan Mills III and Nolan Mills IV (Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C.)

    Mike Ordnung and Preston Ordnung (Jackson, N.C.)

    Daniel Boone and Daniel Boone (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.)

    Neil Harrell and Logan Harrell (Huntersville and Mooresville, N.C.)

Last year's champions, Ernie Newton of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Lincoln Newton of Wallburg, N.C., grandfather and grandson, tied for ninth at 1-under 70. Lincoln was riding momentum from a win at the High Point Junior the day prior.

Other 1-under finishers included:

    Tee Burton and Reed Burton (Shelby, N.C.)

    Jason Hawley and Landon Hawley (Charlotte, N.C.)

    Harrison Rutter and Jacob Rutter (Pfafftown and Winston-Salem, N.C.)

    Brandon Bryce and Jackson Bryce (Cary, N.C.)
