Event: 28th Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur Championship and 4th Carolinas Women’s Super Senior Amateur Championship

RALEIGH, N.C. – Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, N.C., and Patty Moore of Pinehurst, N.C., captured the Carolinas Senior Women’s and Super Senior Women’s Championship titles, respectively, Wednesday at Brier Creek Country Club.

For Kuehn, the victory carried special meaning. She dedicated her championship to the memory of Kathy Binkley and Maggie Collins, who were tragically killed. Friends gathered throughout the championship to honor their memory and celebrate the impact they had on the Carolinas golf community. Before play began, friends shared a few words in their honor, while players wore ribbons throughout the championship and custom ball markers were created in their memory.

In the Senior Championship, Kuehn made a late charge to force a three-player playoff with Julie Streng of Greensboro, N.C., and Pam Prescott of Piedmont, S.C. Kuehn birdied the final two holes of regulation to earn her spot in the playoff, finishing at 3-under-par 141 after rounds of 69 and 72.

Kuehn carried that momentum into the playoff. On the first extra hole, she sank a long birdie putt to capture the 28th Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

Streng made a charge of her own in the final round, firing a 3-under-par 69 to climb two spots and join Kuehn and Prescott at 3-under. Prescott carded rounds of 71 and 70 to complete the three-way tie.

Kathy Hartwiger of Pinehurst, N.C., finished alone in fourth at 1-under-par 143 following rounds of 72 and 71.

In the Super Senior Championship, Moore and Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C., battled down the stretch, with the title ultimately coming down to the final hole.

Moore caught fire on the back nine, making three consecutive birdies on Nos. 12, 13 and 14 to pull even with Brogden heading to the 18th tee. Moore made par on the final hole to secure the victory.

Moore carded rounds of 74 and 75 for a 5-over-par 149 total, finishing two strokes ahead of Brogden to claim her third Carolinas Super Senior Women’s Championship title. Diane Cardano-Casacio of Hilton Head Island, S.C., finished third at 9-over-par 153 after rounds of 77 and 76.
