Riley Grimm Cruises to Five-Shot Victory at Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational

NEW BERN, N.C. — Riley Grimm continues to build a junior golf résumé that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

The 16-year-old from Pinehurst, N.C., fired a bogey-free, 7-under-par 65 in the final round of the 17th Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational to finish at 12-under 204 and claim a commanding five-shot victory at Taberna Country Club.

Grimm entered Sunday's final round with a two-shot advantage after opening the 54-hole championship with rounds of 70 and 69 on Saturday. Rather than simply protecting the lead, she delivered her best round of the weekend.

Grimm carded seven birdies without a bogey in the final round, making the turn at 2-under for the day before putting the championship away with a blistering back-nine 30. She birdied Nos. 12, 14, 15 and 17 coming home to close with a 65 and separate herself from a talented field.

Sierra Kowalyshyn of Stoney Creek finished runner-up at 7-under 209 following rounds of 69, 71 and 69. Hadley Kate Elvington of Leland, N.C., closed with a 69 to finish another shot back in third at 6-under 210.

For Grimm, however, the victory is another significant addition to what is quickly becoming one of the most impressive junior résumés in the Carolinas.

Just last week, Grimm announced her commitment to play collegiate golf at N.C. State, ending one of the most anticipated recruitments in Carolinas junior golf. A member of the Class of 2028, Grimm has already collected several prestigious national and regional titles with nearly two full years of junior golf still ahead of her.

Sunday's victory is her second CGA title of the season. Grimm captured the 2026 Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship earlier this year and has now added the Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational to her growing list of accomplishments.

The win also comes just weeks before Grimm will represent Team North Carolina at the USGA's U.S. National Development Program Southeast Showcase at Quixote Club in Sumter, S.C., on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

She won't be the only Jimmy Anderson competitor making the trip.

The Jimmy Anderson field also featured a strong contingent of players who will represent the Carolinas later this month at the U.S. National Development Program Southeast Showcase at Quixote Club in Sumter, S.C.

Grimm will be joined on Team North Carolina by fellow Jimmy Anderson competitors Adelyn Rosado of Cary and Carolina Wynns of Lillington. Team South Carolina will feature four players from the field: Arley Jennings of Spartanburg, Lexi Palazzo of Hilton Head Island, Charli Heaton of Lexington and AC Peake of Pauline.

In all, seven players from the Jimmy Anderson field will represent North Carolina or South Carolina at the Southeast Showcase later this month.

The Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational is conducted jointly by the Carolinas Golf Association and Peggy Kirk Bell Girls' Golf Tour and continues to bring together many of the region's top junior players. The 2026 championship featured a new 54-hole format, with competitors playing 36 holes Saturday before returning for Sunday's final 18 at Taberna Country Club.

For Grimm, the additional 18 holes only provided another opportunity to separate herself.

After rounds of 70 and 69 put her at 5-under through Saturday's marathon day, she began Sunday with the lead and never surrendered it. Her bogey-free 65 took her to 12-under for the championship and turned a two-shot advantage into a five-shot victory.

At just 16 years old, with an N.C. State commitment now official and another CGA title secured, Grimm's ascent through Carolinas junior golf continues.

The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls' Golf Tour, the Jimmy Anderson family, and the staff and members of Taberna Country Club for their hospitality and support of the championship.
