ARCHDALE, N.C. – Ryan Hedgecoe and Nate Horne of Fayetteville, N.C., captured the title at the 31st North Carolina Four-Ball Championship at Holly Ridge Golf Links in Archdale, N.C., finishing at 25-under-par 191 after three rounds of competition.
The first round featured low scores across the field, with Hedgecoe and Horne opening with a 10-under-par 62 to share the lead with another side. The duo followed with a 6-under-par 66 in the second round to remain in contention heading into Sunday’s final round.
Warren Stiglitz of Denver, N.C., and Griffin Williams of Greensboro, N.C., emerged as the solo leaders after 36 holes. Following an opening-round 62, the pair carded a 7-under-par 65 in the second round to reach 17-under-par and take a one-stroke lead into the final day.
The first two rounds went smoothly, setting the stage for an exciting finish. However, Sunday’s final round was interrupted by a two-hour weather delay due to Hurricane Isaias, adding another challenge to the championship’s closing day.
Hedgecoe and Horne continued to battle near the top of the leaderboard as the final round unfolded. Stiglitz and Williams ultimately finished at 20-under-par 196, while Hedgecoe and Horne found themselves in a tight race with John John Santospago of Charlotte, N.C., and James Fisher of Raleigh, N.C.
The championship came down to the final hole, where Hedgecoe and Horne were tied with Santospago and Fisher after the latter team made birdie on No. 18. With the title on the line, Hedgecoe sank a 40 foot eagle putt on the 18th hole to seal the victory for himself and Horne.
Santospago and Fisher secured second place at 23-under-par 193, while Stephen Lavenets of Willow Spring, N.C., and Jackson Spires of Apex, N.C., finished third at 21-under-par 195.
Despite the weather interruption, the championship delivered a thrilling finish at Holly Ridge Golf Links, as Hedgecoe and Horne came through in the clutch to claim the 31st North Carolina Four-Ball Championship title.
The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank Holly Ridge Golf Links and its entire staff for hosting the 31st North Carolina Four-Ball Championship and helping make the event a success.
