7th Carolinas Junior Girls 15 and Under Golf Championship Set for July 7-9

WEST END, NC – The Carolinas Junior Girls 15 and Under Championship will be played July 7-9 on the River or West Course at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in Whispering Pines, N.C.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has not reached her 16th birthday by July 9, who has not started college, who is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, who is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and who has a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 40.4.

While this is the seventh playing of the championship, it is the first under the aegis of the Carolinas Golf Association, which took management of the event from the Women’s Carolinas Golf Association this year along with the association’s other championships after they voted to dissolve in July 2012.

Three age divisions will compete.  The championship division will play the layout at about 5,700 yards.  The junior division will play about 5,200 yards.  The sub-junior division, for girls 12 years and younger, will play nine holes both days at about 2,400 yards.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the championship has been contested at the CC of Whispering Pines which has two courses, both designed by Donald Ross disciple Ellis Maples. The River Course is the shorter, tighter and hillier of the two.
