4th NC Amateur Match Play Set for July 31-August 4 at Carolina CC in Raleigh

WEST END, NC -- The 4th North Carolina Amateur Match Play Golf Championship will take place July 31 through August 4 at the Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, NC.

Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, who won four CGA titles in 2012, will defend his title.  He won a year ago over veteran Scott Harvey of Greensboro.

The venerable Carolina Country Club, founded in 1910, boasts a rolling layout just north of the Raleigh city center. Carolina CC has previously hosted two major CGA championships: Carolinas Amateur(1932) and North Carolina Mid-Amateur(2010).

The championship is contested at match play. All competitors will play in 36 holes of qualifying stroke play, determining 32 players who move to the match play rounds. The defending champion is seeded number one for match play, if otherwise eligible.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by July 31, 2013, who is a legal resident of North Carolina, who is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and who has a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 5.4.

The starting field is comprised of exempt players plus those who qualified at one of these sites: Statesville Country Club, Firethorne Country Club in Marvin, Siler City Country Club and Lochmere Country Club in Cary.
